Privacy Policy

How your personal data is handled in the PiXplain app and on this website.

1. At a glance

This page explains what happens to your data when you use the PiXplain app or visit this website.

The short version: PiXplain works fully offline. Your photos, points, notes and dimensions are stored only on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. There is no account and no login.

2. The PiXplain app

Local data storage

The app stores all of its data locally on your device in a SQLite database, together with the image files you annotate. No project data, photo or annotation is transmitted to us or to any third party.

Data stored on your device

  • Photos you capture or select for a project
  • Annotation points and their positions on the image
  • Point titles and comments (instructions, dimensions and notes)
  • Project titles and creation/update timestamps
  • App settings and preferences

Because this data lives in the operating system's protected app storage, app updates do not delete or modify it.

Permissions

  • Camera: to take a photo for a new annotation project
  • Photos / Gallery: to pick an existing photo to annotate
  • Storage / Files: to save images and to import or export .pixplain files

Sharing & export

When you choose to share, PiXplain creates either a self-contained HTML report or a dedicated .pixplain file (a JSON document that embeds the image and all points) and hands it to your device's standard share dialog. The data only leaves your device if you decide to send it somewhere — for example by email or messenger. We are not involved in and have no access to that transfer.

Importing .pixplain files

When you import a .pixplain file shared with you, it is read locally and stored as a new project on your device. Nothing is sent to us.

3. This website

Analytics (Umami) — only with your consent

This website can use Umami, a privacy-friendly, lightweight analytics tool, to understand how the site is used (for example which pages are visited). Umami is loaded only after you actively agree via the consent banner. If you decline — or until analytics are configured — no analytics script is loaded and no analytics data is collected.

Where used, Umami is configured to collect only aggregated, anonymous usage statistics. It does not build advertising profiles and does not track you across other websites.

Cookies / local storage

We store a single entry in your browser's local storage to remember your analytics choice (granted or denied) so the banner does not reappear on every visit. This entry contains no personal data and is not used for tracking.

Server log files

Our hosting provider may create standard server log files (e.g. anonymised IP address, time of request, requested URL, HTTP status, browser/user-agent) for the technical operation and security of the site. These logs are deleted automatically after a short retention period.

4. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification of inaccurate data
  • Erasure of your data
  • Restriction of processing
  • Data portability in a machine-readable format
  • Object to processing

Because the app stores everything locally, you can exercise most of these rights directly: deleting a project in the app, or uninstalling the app, removes the associated data from your device.

5. Contact

For any privacy-related question, please contact us:

E-mail: [email protected]
Postal address: see the Imprint.

Right to complain: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
